Certificate Holder

The certificate holder is the person or business the COI is addressed to. Being the certificate holder means you receive the certificate — but, importantly, it does not by itself give you any coverage.

Coverage for the hiring party comes from the additional insured endorsement, not from being named the certificate holder. Confusing the two is a common and risky mistake.
